Upon our arrival, greg and I left our car and got into David Stiles vehicle and proceeded to the Smokemont Ranger Station, on US Hwy 441, where we completed the required permit for back country hiking and camping. We indicated on the permit, we would be spending Saturday evening at Deep Creek Trail Campsite 53.

At approximately 3:00 PM (Sunday), Greg and I began preparing the inside of the tent to stay another night. We had plenty of food and began to eat some. Our water was low, but there was a small stream just behind the campsite. My biggest fear was that I would loose consciousness and greg would try to walk out by himself and I told him if this happened, just keep me covered up and stay put. Someone would be there eventually.

The Ranger asked me if I could walk now and I began moving around with the aid of my walking stick and I began feeling somewhat better, yet weak. Shortly, several National Forest Service employees and another GSMNP Ranger arrived and began breaking camp and packed everything in two packs for the mile long walk to awaiting vehicles.
The female Ranger rode behind me and periodically asked me how I felt and kept an eye on greg.

We eventually arrived in the parking lot at the Deep Creek Campground where we were met by wife and my Mother. There were several NFS and Park personnel there as well as another female Ranger, who I believe was Ranger Stewart.

Temperatures drop at night more than most people expect, even in the middle of sumer so you should make sure you’re prepared. The best sleeping bag is one which allows moisture to escape while keeping warm air trapped.

Temperature ratings should be taken as a general rule, remember, temperatures can drop below zero in spring, particularly at higher altitudes so you should follow specific directions of the manufacturer. The amount of heating that different people will need can vary widely, with some people requiring more warmth than others.

The fill in sleeping bags can be made of a wide range of things, most commonly goose, duck or down. Down is the warmest and often most expensive but not very good if it gets wet.

Remember your first tent? It’s cool to watch my kids with their first tent experiences. Sure, the tent may only be in the living room. But it is really cool to watch the interest in the little ones develop. I think this is something you should really encourage. Think back to all the great camping experiences you have in your life. Now think about all of those great things that lie ahead for your kids. Camping is universally fun, why not start your kids really early. So, I’ll get off my soap box and back on point. The earlier you introduce your kids to camping the more likely that they will stick with the hobby.

It is said to be the best, exciting, wonderful, educative experience for the people who requires. Students will be more educative if they choose the right camp for their summers to spend their holidays. Summer camps comes up with innovative, specialized programs such as guitar, singing, dancing, horseback riding, indoor games, outdoor games, fashion design, Hollywood stunt, extreme action adventure, water sports, secret agent, broadcast journalism and acting. Children, kids and adults gain more experience and knowledge from the field and help them to settle at the time of need.

Depending on where you live in the country, almost every time of the year can be a good time to go out camping with your friends or family. Some of those times might require special camping equipment needed for different seasons. Using the better quality camping supplies available will usually pay off in the long run due to their ability to withstand continual use over time. These better brands for camping don’t necessarily have to cost a lot of money when you look for these items online. It’s only a few clicks away to an available camping equipment outlet found on the Internet.

Various camping equipment outlets will allow for nice discounts when you buy almost anything related to camping like sleeping gear, tents, emergency and survival equipment, camping furniture, lighting or lanterns for camping, knives, hatchets and many more items.

Some of these camping equipment outlets also sell slightly used camping gear that will usually be more discounted at then newer lesser quality items. Also, you are looking for a better quality camping equipment but want to stay under budget, purchasing slightly used items may allow for getting the better quality. You might realistically expect that slightly used camping gear will likely last longer than the cheaper new items you could get for less money. You really need to compare the better brands with the cheaper ones to really understand the difference in quality.

Taking some time to research various camping resources like articles and consumer news will usually help your chances for a more enjoyable camping experience over time. Looking through various tips and other information regarding camping will help you understand what brands will be better for various categories of camping supplies. Part of your research helpng towards a more enjoyable camping adventure will include comparing stores with each other to find some of those better deals.

You also might look into finding this equipment in the classifieds or auctions. Auctions online will have available for sale and bid for almost any camping or hiking supplies you could ever think of being available and more. Some of these sites will have both auctions and no bidding purchases available to the consumer. Consumers who like to find deals can sometimes find great ones using auctions. Others that may be reluctant to bid on items will often have the chance to simply purchase those items at a given price.

Summer camps could be a form of holiday, a learning experience, or a bit of both. Some of the maximum benefits summer camps provide is the chance for children to make new friends, learn new skills or just look up upon current ones, and stay busy and active all through the summer months.

When I was first a camp counselor, it was a long long time ago. People would play tricks on me. One time, I stepped right into IT.

From then on, I needed to get back at the people who did this to me. The gal that did this to me found her 1976 Ford station wagon sitting on its rims alone. lol. Now how I pulled that off is another story in and of itself.

I’ve been a summer camp counselor for over 25 years at various camps. One of the activities I covertly participate in is pranks played upon the other camp counselors.

Another prank I’ve performed many times is cutting shoe laces almost completely in half. When attempting to tie, the laces break in half. They had to tie them in knots to lace up. One last prank was to mix up all of the girls clothes between cabins. One t-shirt would be in another’s luggage, etc. A size 6 shoe would be matched with a similar size 7 1/2 shoe in another cabin. This drove the girls nuts. Some may think that I’m crazy (and i probably am crazy lol); however, we all have a great time each summer.

I know that I would spend the year in school thinking about how I could prank other people over the summer. It was a great past time and would keep me exited about going back to camp each summer.

I love to camp in Maine. Way away from everything and anyone.

I had never camped before. My husband had camped as a child and does the hunting thing every year.
I got on the Internet and visited as many camping sights as I could find (love your sight! It was extremely helpful!) I printed out checklists, combined a few and came up with one good one. Now that I had some idea what was necessary, I started to shop. I put a lot of things on layaway and then hit the yard sales and flea markets. When our car would not pass inspection without a great deal of work we decided to purchase something that we could haul camping equipment in.

A month or so before the trip my son and I put the tent up in the back yard. I let him invite a friend or two and they would sleep out. Sunday afternoon we would take the tent down. The following weekend they would sleep out again and on Sunday we would take it back down. My neighbors thought I was such a great mom, letting my son have a sleep over every weekend. Little did they know I was just practicing so that we would not look like idiots in front of the Boy Scouts.

You can’t just buy any old tent. It needs to be a good one.

The evening before the big trip I sent my husband to work in my car. My son and I loaded the Blazer with all of my junk. Then the other campers started to arrive. They teased me a bit. Said it looked like the Hilton of camps. Although, every time someone forgot something they would say Go over to the Hotel Fitzroy. They probably have it! Even though I might have gone a little over board, I had a really great time! I could cook and wash up easily!

So there you have it. The first time I went camping. Pretty cool.

Our entire family was invited to a scout camping weekend. I nearly panicked since I had never been camping before, but my son and daughter really wanted to go. Luckily, the scouts’ invitation came with several ideas and a list of how to pack for the trip to learn more about camping. I checked out all the sites, plus a few more, and then went shopping. Between a couple camping gear websites and the big box discount store, I located everything that we would need. It was still all new to me, but when we arrived at the campground the more experienced parents were on hand to make sure that all the families had a good time. We did. Thanks to the scouts. More simliar stuff.

I find swimming as one of the best parts of camping. Especially in the summer, I just love a dip when I’m out in the woods. I’m not saying that everybody enjoys the same things when camping But, for me, a dip in the water is more refreshing than the most amazing shower you could ever take. So, I say, no matter what the temperature is out there, you need to think about dropping your shorts and diving in the water. Even if you don’t I’m sure you will enjoy your camping experience. You’re in the woods. That’s pretty good!
