The camping world holds limitless fun. The main attraction of the camping world is enjoying the benefits of the great outdoors. Hiking, swimming, and a little bit of rest and relaxation are just a few of the many possibilities to partake in. The joys can be endless in the camping world. However, although it is good to be prepared for whatever activities you would like to do, it is even more important to be ready to deal with those you would rather avoid.
A tent or other shelter is the main thing that you will need for camping. A tent or other shelter will help protect you against the elements. The conditions in the camping world can range from bright and sunny to torrential downpours in a matter of minutes! In cases of extreme heat, a strategically placed tent could shield you from the sun. In keeping dry during rainstorms, a sturdy rain fly over the roof of your tent can go a long way. The floor will stay dry, too, if you spread a tarp beneath your tent. A great alternative for shelter can be a pop up camper if your budget allows for it. A number of shelter options are available for the camping world.
Feeling the cool breeze blow through your tent, sleeping under the stars can be two of the best parts of camping. Padding and sleeping bags are two items that can make sleeping in a tent even more comfortable. There are many different styles of sleeping bags, depending on your needs. You can get a conventional sleeping bag that zips up around your chest. Mummy style sleeping bags are another option, and they can zip up and around your head. Both kinds come in many different colors, materials, as well as a wide range of temperature suitabilities. It is good to have mats or padding for beneath your sleeping bag, too. You can get anything from a foam egg crate style pad to a blow up mattress, depending on your needs. At night you can be warm and comfortable with the right gear.
There are a wide array of possibilities for outdoor activities, as well. Hiking is a sport that many enjoy in the camping world. There are many hiking trails to explore, and they vary depending in terrain and distance. It is best to be prepared, even on the easiest of trails. Bottled water is an important provision to bring. Keeping hydrated is of the utmost importance while engaging in any exercise, hiking included. Another item you will need is a pair of sturdy shoes, such as hiking boots. These come in many different colors and materials, depending on your needs and budget. It is a wise choice to bring some sort of compass or global positioning system device with you on a hike, in case you get lost. Longer treks could benefit from a snack such as trail mix. Hiking should be comfortable and safe with these provisions.
Dry matches, cooking gear and firewood are also important items to have while camping. Many of the aforementioned items you need are very durable and can last you for years of camping fun. Follow these tips and you will make endless wonderful memories while camping.

I used to think that the right camping gear was important. But I’ve found that, as I get older the less concerned I am about making sure that essential camping gear was ready to go. In fact, as I’ve gotten older, my mind has moved away from the gear and more on the experience itself. I guess this is sort of a zen statement. But, it is more and more just about getting away. I am finding the experience of the woods, regardless of what I bring with me is the important thing. You’re probably saying, no kidding. But I see many people caught up in the gear and getting distracted from the camping itself. Just get out there. Enjoy it.
A great site to see..

Us three boys were all around 13 years old, and really Fred and I were the only ones with any camping experience. We all piled in Linda’s station wagon, and drove to Lake George. We registered at the Adirondack Camping Village, and went to our site. It was a nice enough looking site.

I quickly woke my mother up, not knowing why there was a puddle in the tent, and thinking that perhaps one of the other boys had an accident or something. Shortly, everyone in the tent was awake, and the flashlights were on, and then we all realized what was going on. It had started raining out, and we had broken a fair number of important camping rules.
First off, our tent was in a low spot, which had pretty much turned into a small pond when the rain started. Then, to make matters worse, we had no rain fly, or tarp, so the rain was leaking through the roof. The seams in the tent had not been sealed, so they were leaking too, and we had 5 people in a tent that was probably big enough for 2 or 3 at most, so there were sleeping bags, pillows, and clothing bags against the fabric walls of the tent everywhere, causing more leaks.
Believe it or not, my mother still camps with us too. Over the years, we’ve had some other unfortunate mishaps, and odd experiences, but no matter how bad things go, we always wind up having fun in the long run!
